Rotary Club

Rotary Cochin Midtown was chartered on 24th October 1983, as the 5th club in Cochin. Cochin, popularly known as "Queen of the Arabian Sea", is a town on the western coast of the southern part of India, in the tiny state of Kerala. She has beautiful backwaters, lush vegetation, tall buildings, dense traffic, plenty of people - about 1.7 million and 30 Rotary Clubs.

Our Club, has, over the years, grown into stature and has made indelible mark in meeting the needs of the community.  Providing 10 fishing boats to fishermen who lost their boats in the Tsunami calamity, providing 10 houses to the people who lost their houses during the same calamity, meeting cost of 103 heart surgeries of underprivileged children, giving life to 27 unmarried girls from lower strata of society by getting them operated for correction of facial deformity (our project named as” Gift a Smile project”) providing furniture, computers, cloths, etc.  to schools for differently abled children, etc. are some of the projects undertaken by the club.

We also have a few projects which we conduct every year. Midday Meal Scheme for primary school children (17th year), House Magazine Contest (15th year), Free Drug Bank at Government Hospital (6th year), Rotary Double Wicket Cricket Tournament (13thth year) and Sruthilayam (an inter-club group-music competition - 12th year) are the major continuing projects.

We have our own building “Rotary Midtown Center” indented to be used also as a vocational training center for under privileged children.

Our club has sponsored five Rotary Clubs (of Ernakulam, Tripunithura, Cochin Global, Cochin Lords and Kattappana Heritage), one Rotaract Club (of Cochin Midtown), Five Interact Clubs and RVCs at Bolgatty Island and Chellanam.

At present we have 50 members. The average of age is 39 (oldest 76, youngest 28). We have a monthly bulletin - Midlines. We also have a weekly e-bulletin, Midnews.  We meet on all Fridays at 7.30PM at Radisson Blu Kochi.

The Club is presently led by President Jose J Valavi.
